New website for Rose Haven :: {{ website photographer }}

Rose Haven has new look on the web! This Portland Oregon based non-profit  is a sanctuary from the street, offering compassion, practical assistance & community to women and children facing homelessness, abuse and other challenges. Their new website is sleek and mobile friendly, making it easier for their guests and supporters to find what they need. People can now fill out a volunteer application online and check out the interactive guest and event calendars to see what’s happening in the Rose Haven community.  I was excited when they called and asked me to do a photo shoot for the home page of their site.  As a website photographer, it’s always fun to shoot with design in mind.

Business Portraits :: {{ Portland, Oregon }}

Megan needed new business portraits for her business cards and other uses.  She chose downtown Portland as her backdrop and we utilized all the great architecture and textures that the Pearl District has to offer.

Whether you need images for your website or for business cards, I usually encourage people to bring many changes of clothes so we can choose at the location what will work best.  I would rather you have tons of choices than need something you don’t have with you.  You can never bring too much.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed the day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world. ~Louis Armstrong

Black and White Family Portraits :: {{ Yakima, Washington }}

Black and White Family Portraits against dramatic skies

I had the pleasure of shooting these Black and White Family Portraits with the natural beauty of Yakima, Washington as our backdrop.  Dramatic skies and the occasional sun break made for a perfect November afternoon to capture this family. When children enter their teens, it can be a challenge for everyone to eagerly cooperate when it comes time for family photos.  I have to credit this family, they were a pleasure to work with! (Every last one of them!)  I make it a habit to explain my style of shooting in the beginning so everyone knows what to expect and it becomes more comfortable.

We had a great time visiting Yakima, stopping to visit the relatively new Bale Breaker Brewing Company for a great pint of beer.  On the drive back, we visited Solstice Woodfire Cafe in Hood River via a recommendation and we weren’t disappointed!  Wow!  Amazing Pizza – we had the special of the day – Brussel Sprouts, bacon and horseradish pizza.  YES PLEASE!  My family enjoys traveling for photo shoots and we always take advantage of exploring the local area and discovering new delights.

The Red Crocs Club :: {{ Senior Portraits, Ridgefield Washington }}

Senior Portraits and Red Crocs

There isn’t much that I love more than meeting people who know exactly what they like and Cody likes his red Crocs.  He and his family looked at me with their eyebrows cocked when I said “If he wears them all the time, then it’s part of his identity and certainly part of his senior year.  So he should totally include them in his portraits!”  I loved venturing into Ridgefield for senior portraits with so many barns and parks at our disposal.  I am excited to see where Cody’s life journey takes him.  He and his mother have a really close relationship so I couldn’t resist pulling her in for the last shot and I LOVE IT!

Courthouse Wedding :: {Wedding Photographer}

A Courthouse Wedding in Portland

Kirk and Kara have known each other a long time and had been engaged for over a year when their baby Grace was born.  Instead of waiting to plan a big wedding, they decided to have simple, sweet courthouse nuptials and plan a party for later taking the stress out of the event.  Kirk is one of two lead singer/songwriters of The Druthers and a portion of his lyrics were included into the ceremony.  The day brought heavy rain and sunshine so bright we had to squint – symbolic of the institution of marriage.  It ain’t always sunshine, baby.

Hudson’s Family Portraits :: {Portland Family Photographer}

Willamette Park :: July Family Portraits

Willamette Park in Portland Oregon had everything we could want for family portraits; railroad tracks, water, grass, fences and an adorable baby boy named Hudson. I had the pleasure of spending a warm summer evening photographing this beautiful family.  With the wonderful help of their parents in town from Florida, it went as smoothly as I could have ever hoped (you never know with a dog AND baby in the same session!)  He couldn’t be any more adorable.

“Blue eyes
Baby’s got blue eyes
Like a deep blue sea
On a blue blue day
Blue eyes
Baby’s got blue eyes
When the morning comes
I’ll be far away
And I say

Blue eyes laughing in the sun
Laughing in the rain
Baby’s got blue eyes
And I am home, and I am home again” ~Elton John

Tiffany & Kevin Tie the Knot :: { Wedding Photographer }

Hovander Homestead Park, Ferndale Washington

What an absolutely lovely day!  4th of July not only marked a day of celebration for our country, but it was a day to celebrate the union of Tiffany & Kevin Chambers.  Hovander Homestead Park was the historical location chosen to pledge their lives to one another and I was lucky enough to be the wedding photographer for the occasion.  The beautiful 333-acre farmstead maintained to look much as it did in the first half of the twentieth century was a perfect backdrop for my photography adventures that day. It is located on the Nooksack River just outside Ferndale so it provided not only expansive fields and an orchard, but just inside the 10,000-square-foot red barn was perfect lighting for the images of the bridesmaids and groomsmen. This lovely wedding was featured in the Bellingham Herald in January 2015. See the article here.

Love is a meeting of two souls, fully accepting the dark & the light within each other bound by the courage to grow thru struggle into bliss.

Yay for Editorial Mentions :: { WEDDINGS | Seattle Bride Magazine }

July 2014 Issue of Seattle Bride Magazine

Thanks to Yuko & Dustin and a great photo from Rennard Photography – I am mentioned in Seattle Bride Magazine this month! It was a CRAZY FUN party.  You can view Yuko + Dustin’s wedding video here.  The whole day is condensed into just nine minutes of glorious highlights making it long enough to remember the wonderful day (and share with their children some day) but not so long that viewers get up and leave during your movie. There were many other vendors that made the day so mentionable and beautiful.  Simply by Tamara Nicole was the wedding planner.

A baby turns into a boy :: {Portland Event Photographer}

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing the birthday of a baby turning one.  This healthy little guy already is bursting out of size 18 months clothes!  His mom is an amazing event planner who put together a circus themed party for their immediate family and brought me on board as an event photographer so that everyone could enjoy themselves without worrying about documenting this memorable occasion.  Happy Birthday sweet boy!

Every Business Needs Videos on their Website :: {Portland Videographer}

The moving image communicates far more than a still photo or the written word.  People will never feel like they know the “real” you until they see you on video or meet you in person. It’s also likely that people will not want to do business with Acme Landscaping if they have a choice between “my neighbor’s sons’ landscaping business” or “Acme” even though they may be ONE AND THE SAME – because people always want to give their hard earned dollar to another person whom they can relate to and respect/trust.

Video helps a stranger feel like they know you or your music (if you’re a musician.)  Videos make a cold call turn into a warm lead.  THEY know YOU at least a little – all because of video.  That is why every business needs videos on their website.  It’s not as painful as it might seem.  I simply need to know the emotional bits about your business and what makes it unique.  This information serves as our starting point.

Next; Having video on your website helps it to rank better and helps with your search engine optimization (or SEO.) Here is a good article about WHY video is important for your website.

Here are three very different examples of video I have created for client websites:
